Significant progress and confidence
Vara Turbo Technics gives new life to used engine turbochargers. Based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, their team disassembles, rebuilds, and resells these machine parts to consumers. Not only does this cut the costs in half, but it’s also environmentally friendly by recycling existing parts and keeping scrap metal out of landfills.
The right software for remanufacturing & inventory control
Before entering the manufacturing industry, the company began as a mechanic shop for large semi-trucks. After several years in business, they purchased the turbocharger remanufacturing company from one of their vendors. They saw an opportunity to add this valuable offering to their existing brand.
The biggest challenge was transitioning their operations and software into this new model. They struggled to understand their pricing, costs, margins, and how to track serialized inventory. This was largely because they were fundamentally shifting from a service business (mechanic) to a consumer good (selling remanufactured parts).
Vara Turbo Technics co-owner, Paras Vara, knew the business had the wrong software for this new model. He searched online for better solutions and demoed several software products to find the right fit. Part of their existing tech stack included QuickBooks Online for accounting, which needed to be integrated.
Paras found several exciting options, but the cost quickly became a barrier. He wanted something in between the clunky, unhelpful software they had and the high-end, expensive options.

Speedy Onboarding
Getting started using Acctivate is fast and simple.
It was 90 days to get set up and get all of our inventory loaded. I did the training myself, and implementing the software with our team was fast—like a lot faster than I expected it to go. We were using it with the whole team within two weeks. Everybody felt comfortable using it. They knew what to do. The most it took was probably 30 days to get everybody comfortable using it daily. It was super easy.”
Cost Transparency
Tracking inventory and labor gives you a fuller understanding of your business.
One of the major benefits is knowing exactly what our turbochargers cost when we put them on the shelf. We can correctly account for our landed costs and brokerage charges, and add them to the cost of the product. We’re no longer looking at the market to decide what we should be selling for. We understand our margin and when we can offer a discount.”

Constant Updates
Software that updates to keep up with your business changes.
There are always updates coming out regularly. Acctivate’s tech support team is fast to respond if we have any questions. As a software, it does what it’s supposed to do and does it really well.”
Responsive Support
A customer service team that takes care of customers.
If the software is not working, we can’t bill our customers, we can’t continue putting these products on the shelf, our business stops right there. It’s not a professional way to run a business if your software doesn’t work for you. With Acctivate, anytime you have a roadblock, they’re there to get us through it. That allows us to keep moving on.”
